Glutathione-s-Transferase activity in peripheral blood lymphocyte and chromosome aberration among workers exposed to organic solvent

Abstract
Glutathione-s-transferase(GST) activity toward 1-chloro-2, 4-dinitrobenzene(CDNB) was measured in peripheral blood lymphocyte from workers exposed to organic solvents and healthy control to investigate relationship between GST activity and chromosome aberration. GST activity in workers was higher than in control. The GST activity was not associated with age and length of exposure. The GST activity was higher in smoker than in nonsmoker both for workers and control but in was not statistically significant. Frequency of chromosome aberration in person with low GST activity was higher compared to the person with high GST activity. The results indicates that GST might be induced by exposure to organic solvent and it is related with the sensitivity to cytogenetic damage by organic solvent.
